Football Closes Season in NCAA Playoffs at DIII Powerhouse UMHB

BELTON, Texas  — The Berry College football team closed the 2018 season on Saturday afternoon with a 75-9 loss at NCAA Division III powerhouse and No. 2 ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor. The Vikings close the season with a 10-2 record, having reached the second round of the NCAA Playoffs for the second straight year.

UMHB collected 575 yards of total offense on the afternoon including 354 yards on the ground. Against a stout defense, Berry managed 205 yards of offense, 112 through the air and 93 rushing. Berry was also held to just 2-of-17 on third down.

The Crusaders jumped out to a 28-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and pushed the score to 48-0 by halftime. UMHB would lead 69-0 before the Vikings cracked the scoreboard on a 36-yard touchdown pass from Tate Adcock to Mason Kinsey. The Vikings recorded a safety on the next possession to make the score 69-9. UMHB would score once more for the 75-9 final.

Joey Connors had a respectable day running the ball behind Berry's offensive line which played well against one of the best defensive fronts in the country. Connors collected 72 yards and Berry's quarterbacks suffered just a single sack. Mason Kinsey was Berry's leading receiver, catching four passes for 62 yards and a touchdown.
