Men's Soccer Closes Season in Narrow 2-1 Defeat at Top-Seeded Oglethorpe

ATLANTAHenry Arato scored in the first half of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) men's soccer semifinals on Friday night, but the Berry College men's soccer team fell at the hands of top-seeded Oglethorpe 2-1 to close the 2019 season.

Berry finishes 9-8-2 overall. Oglethorpe improved to 14-3-0 on the year and advanced to the SAA championship match.

The teams were as even as could be in the early goings. Oglethorpe scored off the boot of Affonso Temporal in the 12th minute to go ahead. Ryan Fierle then fired a shot in the 16th minute that got past the keeper, but an Oglethorpe defender was able to boot it away and keep the Vikings off the board. Arato's score came off a pass from Aidan Hackett in the 28th minute to even the score. Sebastian Carlson then scored the eventual game-winner off a pass from Josh Bronstorph in the 37th minute.

The Stormy Petrels were then able to control the Berry offense, holding the Vikings to just three shots in the second half. Berry's Baker Hoyt faced nine shots in goal, recording seven saves. The match saw 29 combined fouls and six total yellow cards.
